About Seeway Trust

A Devon charity with a calling
that knows no borders.

Seeway Trust is an inter-denominational Christian charity based in Devon, England. For almost 30 years we have worked with trusted local partners in impoverished areas to protect vulnerable children and open doors to education, safety, and hope.

Our story

It started with a single phone call.

Seeway Trust was founded in 1997, rooted in the community of Grosvenor Church Barnstaple, Devon. Two years later, in 1999, George Bainborough heard about a children's home in Ghana where over 60 children were being cared for with no electrical power, no running water, and very little money. That moment turned a calling into a life's work.

What started as one man's response to God's call of “Rescue my children” has become a trust with a team of dedicated trustees, local partners, and faithful supporters who together provide safety, education, and the Gospel to vulnerable children across four countries.

Today, that calling continues at the Seeway Academy in Namanwora, on the soup kitchens of Zhytomyr in Ukraine, and through trusted partners in Zimbabwe and Tanzania. The work has grown, but the heart of it remains the same.

Our Mission

A world where children are rescued from poverty and equipped to live meaningful lives, empowered by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our Vision

To identify at-risk children and provide practical support (education, nutrition, safe shelter, family strengthening) alongside Christ-centred discipleship, so every child can grow, belong, and thrive.

Our trustees

The people behind almost 30 years of faithful service.

No trustee or founder is paid. Everyone you see here gives their time freely, motivated only by the children we serve.

George Bainborough

Co-founder & Lead Trustee for Ghana

George Bainborough

As founder of Seeway Trust, George brings decades of frontline leadership to the charity's work. He serves as Lead Trustee for Ghana, making regular field visits to guide strategy, mentor local leaders, and ensure high standards in safeguarding, education, and programme delivery. George helped establish Seeway Education and continues to expand its reach; building partnerships with churches, schools, and community groups so children can learn, belong, and thrive. After a career in public service, he now devotes his time to strengthening Seeway's projects, nurturing local capacity, and responding quickly to new opportunities on the ground. His commitment to practical, Gospel-centred action remains as strong as ever.
Sally Bainborough

Co-founder & Sponsorship Lead

Sally Bainborough

Co-founder Sally brings decades of care and administrative expertise to Seeway Trust. As Sponsorship Lead, she builds the bridge between sponsors and the children we support, co-ordinating communication, safeguarding oversight, and accurate records in line with UK charity requirements. Over 20 years, her role has grown with the programme: from early spreadsheets to a robust, relational system that keeps every child known by name and story. Sally also organises sponsor visits, guiding people through cross-cultural realities so encounters are safe, dignifying, and deeply encouraging. A retired NHS professional, she now devotes her time to steady, compassionate administration; the engine room that helps children flourish.
Carol Anderson

Trustee

Carol Anderson

Carol Anderson is a Trustee of Seeway Trust, bringing a strong background in education and information technology. A graduate of Keele University and based in South Molton, Devon, she supports the charity in refining its digital systems, improving data management, and strengthening communication and training across teams and partners. Having visited Ghana alongside co-founders George and Sally Bainborough, Carol gained first-hand insight into Seeway's work on the ground. This experience informs her practical approach to enhancing how programmes are delivered, monitored, and communicated. By combining her teaching expertise with applied IT skills, she helps ensure that children, families, and sponsors remain effectively connected and well supported.
I am passionate about helping children to know they are valued and matter, and love to encourage them to want to be the best version of themselves, despite whatever start in life they may or may not have had.
