A sponsor from the UK - Full Report. Bob Clayton - A trip to Ghana. Having shown an interest in Seeway Trust I was kindly invited by George Bainborough to join a small group who visited Ghana in May 2002. I was looking forward to my first visit to Africa and to meeting the people of Ghana who George had described so enthusiastically. I was quite unprepared for the kindness and friendliness of everyone we met, from Pastor James and members of his church, to unknown people in the market who just wanted to talk to us. We visited the orphanage at Bawjaise on two occasions, staying overnight in the village on the second visit. This enabled us to spend virtually 24hrs at the home, from morning prayers at 4.30am, yes 4.30am, to prayers at 7.00pm, and all aspects of the life of the home in between. I had only heard descriptions and seen photographs of the home and its surroundings but could see the enormous amount of work that had been done in the past year. Their hard work was evident. Under the supervision of Captin Joe, Emma's husband, an amazing amount of cultivation and planting had been done to provide food and income. A borehole and pump had been installed which, together with a water supply from the city, provided water for domestic use and irrigation. A nursery had also been built for all the new babies which had arrived recently. Louvre windows (provided by a money raised through the Devon and Cornwall Police) had also been fitted to all the windows at the home. This will stop the children from getting wet during the rainy season whilst inside the buildings. The entire atmosphere of the home emanated happiness and love. The staff were helpful, kind, loving, but strict where necessary. But above all, enthusiastic in their aim of providing a happy fulfilling life for these children. The children in turn responded to their enthusiasm by being happy and showing a zest for life in whatever they were doing, whether praying, studying, working or just playing. With committed people like this, supported by George Bainborough, Pastor James and the many Seeway supporters, the Countryside Children's Home in Ghana can only go from strength to strength. STEP BY STEP. Congratulations to all!
