Kazakhstan (background
information)
We
became involved in a state orphanage in Kazakhstan; 'Disabled Children’s
Orphanage no 3' in Almaty.
It is the home to
160 physically and mentally handicapped children. Because of low staffing levels
the children have had no help with their physical needs, many of them have to be
shown the very basics such as how to walk.
Larisa
a physical education teacher
with some physiotherapy training needed finance to enable her to spend 3 days a
week with these children and to purchase the basic gym equipment. The Seeway
Trust raised the money to pay Larisa’s initial wages for 12 months and to
equip the gym.
After
having received Larisa's second report on the
children since she has been working at Almaty, I am pleased to be able to say
that very many, have been making encouraging progress.
Sadly not all
of the children
receiving help are progressing. Some of the older children (early teens), who
are in a severely handicapped condition, appear to have little physical change,
but their emotional state seems to have improved which is great news.
Some
of the greatest improvements appear to be with the much younger and infant
groups, which really is heartening.
We are extremely
grateful to those who already
generously sponsor children in the care of Seeway Trust homes, those who have
become partners with us and those who have helped with gifts of finance for the
work of the Trust. But if you feel that you can help, we are still looking for
more aid.
