News from Seeway Trust Ghana by Janet Wheeler

The work of Seeway Trust Ghana is gradually taking shape - thanks to all those who continue to support in finance and prayer.

Countryside Orphanage Home

This orphanage home at Bawjiase was the first home Seeway Trust became involved with in Ghana and has flourished over the years with significant additions by way of buildings, amenities, and the farm. Unfortunately, Captain has now almost lost his sight, but Emma remains firmly in her responsibilities as mother of the home, and other duties have been well delegated for smooth running of the orphanage.

The home has also benefited by Seeway Trust sending in Mr Humphrey Patterson as Children Welfare Officer who gives attention to the kids well being and a listening ear and guidance to those who are now reaching adolescence and adulthood.

The children are thriving with good food including fresh produce from the farm. We commend the management of the home in their efforts to provide the best education for the children using the primary school built by Seeway Trust, and the local junior schools. Attention has also been given to those who are able to attend senior secondary and vocational schooling and often with the assistance of our generous sponsors in UK.

Osenase Orphanage

This home is always a special blessing to visit as the children are so delightful and exuberant in all they do. Their health remains good as they are well fell and good water continues to flow through the pipes.

The new building comprises of health clinic, office, and visitors accommodation has helped in raising the standard of the home for which they are most grateful. Over the last year the home received a number of overseas visitors including a Scottish group who brought them new study bibles and Canadians made considerable contribution with clothes and equipment for the home. Three young ladies from UK came on mission to transform one room into a play room with colorful murals and a good time was had by all. The home continues to attract young overseas volunteers from Sweden, Denmark, and Germany who have helped with care of the children and teaching in the school.

The building of a new primary school is well underway on new land acquired for the home. It will be an impressive building able to accommodate up to 200 children and the Ghana Education Service will issue registration on its completion and we are very excited with the potential of this school. When I left Ghana in mid November the base had been laid and making of blocks begun, however, it is reported to be up to lintel level now and will take £10,000 to complete.

School progress at October 2007

School progress back in November 2007 - but is now up to lintle level.

Nsuaem Orphanage

This newly formed orphanage has been ticking over as it gradually gets established with the children to feel at home. There have been numerous health problems i.e. skin rashes which are caused by the water, however, now there is just one lad who needs t be seen by a specialist and a couple of kids with hernias need attention.

They are all settled in the local schools and one girl has just been financed to attend boarding Senior Secondary School. The staff does well with all the demands of looking after 34 children and all eagerly waiting for the building of a purpose built home on the land which has been acquired from the Chief. Farming, however, has already begun and yielded maize, tomatoes, and cassava for the Home.

As I visit each month I see the children growing physically and in self confidence as evidence of their stable and regulated lives.

Thank God that Seeway Trust is able to make a difference in the lives of all these children!
