Seeway Trust - Newsflash - March 2006

U-Shop U-Give is to cease trading on March 31st.
Thank you to all who have supported our charity by buying through them in this last year.

Although their team have worked exceedingly hard and provided a tremendous amount of funds to many charities, it appears that their supplier 'Amazon' were not happy. Amazon were not making as much money out of it as they had hoped to!

It would seem there is no room for charity in big business.

NURSE  APPEAL - September 2005
A NURSE APPEAL
The Chairman of SEEWAY TRUST says…

"VIVIENNE was interviewed in April 2005. She is a State Registered Nurse and a State Certified Midwife. The Trust were keen to appoint her. However due to the loss of good quality medical people to Europe and America, the Ghana government have had to raise the wages of hospital staff to such an extent that this lady would need about £500 per month plus a car, to be able to work for Seeway Trust. At this time we are not in a position to pay this sort of money"

BACKGROUND:
Within the last 5 years that the Trust has been working in Ghana West Africa, "rescuing children", some have sadly died. We have since learned that some of these little ones need not have died IF someone experienced in health matters had been able to screen them early on in their lives, give preventative advice/or intervention, treatment and Nursing care to stop mortality occurring unexpectedly.

Vivienne tending to poorly children in Ghana.

VISION:
To fund and equip an experienced, qualified Nurse to routinely visit the 200 children who live in the three Homes currently supported by Seeway Trust in Ghana, and be able to oversee and fulfil the requirements of the post as described above.

At this time the Trust had approximately HALF of these costs already being regularly donated for a Nurse. So an appeal was launched. A Fundraiser in Gloucester sent over £300 from a coffee event held in the afternoon. EVERY AMOUNT makes a difference!!

COULD YOU HELP TOO?
By becoming a regular Partner with Seeway Trust.
Each month send a fixed amount of money to the Trust either by post or standing order through your Bank (please complete the Banking form on the back of this leaflet). If appropriate please ask about a Gift aid form too!! And designate it for THE NURSE. Thank you.

By giving a one off gift of money. Send it to the Trust designated as above, to the address on the back of the leaflet at the top. Thank you.

By being a Fundraiser too! If you flow with creative ideas and know of others who may like to be a part of this exciting venture then please let us know. Your idea could save hundreds of lives!

Seeway Trust News Item - September 2005

'Many orphans who do not grow up in family units often have problems to relating to their own spouse and children in later life, which can lead to repeated devastation…' (Alfred Birnur)

The above statement is an extract, written by Alfred who spent many years being brought up in an orphanage. It is taken from his Letter to Sponsors - where he explains so heartwarmingly, why we do it and why you're needed - to read his letter please click HERE

Update on Kanuti in Tanzania
The new boy Kanuti is getting on very well in the house. He knows God, having attended an AOG church for some time, and had been crying out to God to help him the day Faith came across him. He knows this is the hand of the Lord on his life.

We now have photos of the children at Obed's home in Dharwar India, please click HERE to view.

Seeway Trust Helping Children in Tanzania - July 2005
Since the beginning of 2005 Seeway has been involved in helping children in Tanzania, working with RAW MISSIONS. Below is the profile of one of the children now in our care at the Seeway Tengeru House.

SEEWAY TENGERU TANZANIA HOUSE: JULY 2005

NAME: Paskali Boka Isalo
DOB: 1994
CURRENT AGE: 11
PLACE of BIRTH: Manyara, Tanzania
RELIGION: Christian

Paskali came to the Seeway house in Tengeru in April 2005 and is adjusting to his new home very well. He was the second boy to be taken into the house, but the first to stay longer than a week. Paskali comes from a home of physical abuse. His mother left the family home; Paskali does not know where she is living. His father works as a driver in the village of Magugu, about 2½ hrs drive south of Arusha. He lived with his grandparents and father. His grandmother and father were physically abusive and so Paskali hitched a ride to Arusha believing it is better to live on the streets than to be beaten everyday by his family.

Paskali would like to visit his father but wants to return to the Seeway house after his visit. He has said that he would not live again with his father and that if he were forced to do so he would run away again. Before coming to the Seeway home he was living on the streets for about 8 months.

Paskali has attended school up to Standard II but has not finished that school year. He is now attending school trying to catch up to the other kids his age. When Paskali finishes school he would like to become a policeman.

To read more profiles of children in our care at the Tengeru House please see our Tanzania Project web page.

Seeway Trust Newsflash - April 2005

Tanzania

Seeway have agreed to help support 'Raw Missions for an initial twelve month period, in their bid to to help street children in Tanzania. Seeway founder George Bainborough will be going over to finalise arrangements during May.

Below is an extract from the April 2005 Raw Missions newsletter, giving further details of this venture -

RAW Missions - Street Kids Outreach - Tanzania

A House For The Street Children!!

We are taking three of the street boys off the street!!!

RAW Missions is VERY excited to be working with Seeway Trust (www.seewaytrust.org), a children’s charity based in the UK, whose main work is providing assistance to children in impoverished countries. Seeway are providing financial support so we can rent a house and employ full time staff.

The boys will live in the house and receive training in life skills, social skills and basic education (maths, reading etc…). As soon as they are ready, we will place them in local schools so they can receive more formal education.

We have two definite boys, Fazili and Pascali, who will be living in the house, and are still in the selection process for the other boy – watch this space!!

Fazili is 15 and has lived on the streets for 7 years. He ran away from his Dar es Salaam home after his mother died - his father did not care about Fazili or his brothers and sisters.

          Pictured Left - Fazili

Fazili hitched a ride to Arusha (8 hours journey away) on a bus, knowing that he had an aunt living in the town. He could not find his aunt. So he started living on the streets as he had no money and no alternative. A few weeks later Fazili came across his aunt in town, and asked her to help him. She refused, saying he was now a street child…he has been on the streets ever since, but hates it and wants to go to school. We have told him he is leaving the streets – he is very very happy.

Pascali is 11. He is from a small town 3 hours drive away from Arusha. Like Fazili, his mother died. His father remarried and the new stepmother did not care for children.

           Picture Right - Pascali

His father began beating Pascali. So…he ran away to Arusha last year. His father knows he is in Arusha but has never come to find him. Pascali too wants to go to school. He does not want to return to his family home to live.

The house "Dad" will be Faith Edwardi – he is a trained school teacher and his heart is for the boys. He will be assisted by Frida Kashe.

Faith Edwardi and Frida Kashe.

Faith and Frida, founded HFCC’s street children’s ministry, together with Atilia Kesuko. They are looking for the right house, and pricing furniture, as we write.

This is a very exciting step forward. We believe that by starting small, with just 2 or 3 boys, we will gain experience quickly, so that in a year’s time we will be ready to expand.

Thank You Seeway!!

And Seeway wants to thank all our supporters and helpers, because it's YOU that make things like this happen!
